Overview

The Principal Systems Engineer is responsible for the research, design, development, support and administration of NTTS business systems software applications.  This position is the highest level in the Systems Engineer job family. Positions at this level perform the most complex duties; ensures work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures; administers and participates in project activities; supervise, assign, review and participate in the work of staff responsible for infrastructure projects/activities including software configuration control, quality control, integration, and documentation. Incumbent may also be responsible for overseeing the work of contract staff or assisting management in planning and evaluating the work performed by subordinate staff.

Responsibilities

  • Leads/performs systems engineering projects/activities of moderate to substantial complexity; plans and reviews project schedules; assists in strategic planning; prepares status reports; coordinates project resources; communicates with all project participants on relevant issues, identifies and resolves system infrastructure and application issues
  • Establishes schedules and methods for providing system application project services; identifies resource needs; reviews need with appropriate management staff; allocates resources accordingly
  • Participates in the development of policies and procedures; monitors work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures; makes recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards and procedures
  • Recommends and assists in the implementation of goals and objectives; implements approved policies and procedures
  • Develops technical requirements for assigned projects; determines hardware and/or software necessary to accomplish projects; evaluates resources; makes hardware and/or software recommendations
  • Prepares analytical and statistical reports on operations, activities and projects
  • Provides technical systems assistance to management, contractors, and other divisions and departments
  • Maintains relevant knowledge and awareness of new trends and innovations within areas of expertise
  • May participate in the evaluation, screening, and selection of new-hires; provide or coordinate staff training; may work with employees to correct deficiencies

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering or a related field
  • Minimum of five years’ software development experience.
  • Minimum of three years as lead software design/development engineer
  • Strong proficiency in Java/J2EE Technologies, object-oriented programming methodology, and relational database experience
  • Salesforce administration, development and Apex experience highly desirable
  • ServiceNow administration and development experience highly desirable
  • Significant experience in API and integration components. Knowledgeable in SAP PI/PO, Cast Iron, Jitterbit, or Informatica applications highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of ITSM policies, processes, and procedures
  • Experience managing 24x365 environments
  • Excellent communications skills–verbal and written
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to thrive under pressure, function and deliver effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Work occurs in a normal business environment but the requirements of the job will necessitate being available to support critical systems 24x365
