Overview

The Senior Windows Systems Engineer is responsible for the operation and maintenance of technical infrastructure within specific areas of expertise. This includes, but not limited to SCCM, Active Directory, and PowerShell scripting.  Positions at this level will work as part of a team and performs complex duties; ensures work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures; participates in project activities; participates in the work of infrastructure projects/activities including software configuration control, quality control, integration, and documentation. Incumbent may also be responsible for assisting management in planning and evaluating the work performed by other staff.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES and DUTIES:

  • Works under minimal supervision, using independent judgment within defined parameters to prioritize and complete day-to-day tasks; receives general direction on complex tasks and projects
  • Leads/performs systems engineering projects/activities of moderate to high complexity; identifies and resolves technical issues
  • Responsible for all operation, administration and maintenance activities of assigned infrastructure systems or components
  • Performs user and security administration
  • Plans and implements software patching and upgrades
  • Partners with other technical services teams to achieve departmental and organizational goals
  • Provides technical assistance to management, contractors, and other divisions and departments
  • Maintains relevant knowledge and awareness of new trends and innovations within areas of expertise
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering or a related field
  • Preferred Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert certification in one of the following; Windows Server, Azure, Exchange, or System Center
  • Minimum of five years advanced systems engineering project experience. Desirable experience will include two or more of the following: server virtualization; system administration; enterprise level Active Directory; System Center; Azure and O365; database administration; distributed processing/storage administration; or, high-availability computing
  • Experience managing 24x365 environments
  • Excellent communications skills–verbal and written
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to thrive under pressure, function and deliver effectively in a fast paced environment
  • Work occurs in a normal business environment but the requirements of the job will necessitate being available to support critical systems 24x365

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering or a related field
  • Minimum of five years systems engineering project experience.  Desirable experience will include two or more of the following: voice networks; data networks; server virtualization; virtual desktop infrastructure; system administration; SAN administration; database administration; distributed processing/storage administration; or, high-availability computing

  • Ability to thrive under pressure, function and deliver effectively in a fast paced environment
